We are a diverse group of young women who attend Larchmont Charter School. Many of us have grown up in the Larchmont community and others of us are newer to the community. Some of our team members love math while others are met with struggle with the subject. All of us, however are aware that success in math is important when it comes to college preparation and especially careers in the STEM field.
We believe that if young girls feel empowered by math, that they will be more likely to pursue math and science in high school, college, and STEM careers upon graduation. This will open up more opportunities for all women, and help our society move towards gender equality in the workforce.
We believe that we can work as role models to empower girls in our school community and beyond. We plan to change the conversation around math and help these girls feel successful as math learners and explore their potential.
